The 3rd round of this very popular League saw nearly 800 athletes descend on a very cold and muddy Boggart Hole Clough in North Manchester.
Trafford AC young athletes featured in most of the days races.
In the combined Junior/Senior Mens race, Richard Powell finished 6th out of 300 finishers and was 1st Junior. He was closely followed by Danny Lawton (7th in the race & 2nd Junior). Danny was the youngest competitor in the race.
The Under 17 Men saw Matt Sutton recovering from an early fall to claim 6th place. He was backed up in the team by Seamus Bradbury 11th & Zac Medley 14th who were both making their first cross country appearances for Trafford.
Perhaps the best performance of the day came in the Under 15 Boys race where Jack Wilkinson (also the youngest in the race) finished an excellent 3rd. He was followed by Xavier O'Hare, making his first Trafford cross country appearance for quite a long time, in 18th place.
The Under 13 Boys all had solid runs with Alex Bailey leading them home in 18th place, followed closely by Cynog Williams 21st, Seb Patrick 28th and Joe Bentall 38th.
Louie McCormack suffered from a lost shoe at the beginning of the Under 11 Boys race but still managed to battle through to 9th place.
Behind him were several welcome new faces with Tom Bentall 10th, Max Rarity 18th, Zak Gardner 21st, Jack Webb 22nd, Jack Ackers 23rd and Kipp Money 25th. This was the most finishers from one club in the race.
It was also good to see an improved turnout from Trafford girls in their races.
At Under 15 level they finished a team of Siobhan Conway 22nd, Anna Baker 29th and Danielle McMinn 31st.
First Trafford athlete home in the Under 13 Girls race was Marnie Mannion in 36th followed by Katherine McMinn in 46th place.
Trafford also finished a team in the Under 11 Girls with more new faces. Sadie Mannion was 21st, Emily Wolstencroft 31st and Olivia Russell 33rd on a course which was true cross country.
The final race of 2014 for many athletes will be the Trafford Schools Cross Country League at Longford Park on Saturday (13th December).
Fitness levels will need to be maintained over Christmas and New Year because the Greater Manchester Clubs Championships are at Boggart Hole Clough on 3rd January, followed by the next round of the Manchester Area League at Heaton Park on 10th January.
