The cross country season continued with the Northern Cross Country Championships being held on a cold but dry day at Pontefract Racecourse.
These Championships were first held in 1899 & have been supported by Trafford AC athletes for the past 50 years.
The only Trafford competitor in the girls events was Marnie Mannion who finished a promising 112th out of 200 runners in the Under 13 race.
The Under 15 Boys finished a team in 11th place. In a field of nearly 200 they were led home by Colin Daly in 36th place, followed by Jack Wilkinson (44th), Xavier O'Hare (105th) & Mikey KIngston (122nd).
Matt Sutton had one of his best ever races when finishing 38th in the under 17 event.
However, the best performances were in the U20 Mens race where Richard Powell gained the bronze medal when finishing 3rd in his 9th year of running in these Championships. Richard was ably supported by Danny Lawton finishing 12th even though he was one of the youngest in the race.
The Championship season now moves on to Woodbank Park in Stockport next Saturday where the Greater Manchester Schools Cross Country Championships will be held & places on the County Team will be decided.
