The road relay season continued with the Northern Championships being held mostly around the track, car park and other surroundings of the Etihad Stadium.
Trafford young athletes had a mixed day of fortunes.
The Under 17 Men's team of Mikey Kingston, Xav O'Hare and Jack Wilkinson put in a solid performance in 12th place out of the 36 teams which started. The 'B' team of Abel Ashby, Connor Fazakerley and James Norton were 24th.
There were also 36 teams in the Under 15 Boys race where our team of Cynog Williams, Alex Bailey and Joe Bentall managed 16th place followed closely by the 'B' team of Matt Torkington, Theo Symons Treacher and Ed Rushton in 23rd.
There were 38 starting teams in the Under 13 Boys race, where the Trafford team emulated the Under 17 team by finishing in 12th place. The trio of Louie McCormack, Oliver Choi and Tom Bentall all ran strongly and finished with times within 2 seconds of each other on the 3k course.
Due to a mix-up, the Under 13 Girls team of Olivia Russell, Amelia Carr and Emily Wolstencroft missed the start of their race and eventually worked their way through to 41st out of the 49 teams which started.
A similar misfortune occurred with the Under 15 Girls team of Shivani Kapoor, Katherine McMinn and Abbie Holbrook who had to compete in the U17 race and ran well to finish in 19th place.
Some of the Trafford athletes who ran yesterday will now travel to Sutton Park in Birmingham on 8th October for the National Road Relay Championships.
