Saturday 14th June saw the final fixture in this years YDL (Lower) competition.
Unusually for Wigan it was a beautiful day - ideal for sprinting and jumping and this was reflected in the performances - over 40 PB's were recorded by Trafford Athletes on the day.
As ever it seems these days the sprint hurdlers got us off to a fine start with wins for Jameelah, Emily, Kim, Will and Rivi. Leila finished third after bravely picking herself up from a nasty fall and still finishing the race, so it was particularly pleasing to see her knock 0.4 off her 75m time for a new PB.
In the sprints we also saw Rivi go below 12 seconds for the first time in the 100m - new PB 11.8. Molly (75m & 150m) and Jameelah (150m) continue to post new sprint PB's, as did Ronnie & Will in the 200m. It was also good to see Danielle, on debut posting some pleasing times.
It was in the Long Jump pit that we really saw the benefit of the fine weather - six PB's out of six jumpers. Kelise in her first ever competition for the club went to the top of the club's u13 girls Long Jump rankings with a jump of 4.22; Molly went over 4m for the first time with 4.08m. in the u15 girls Zalika and Lili have been chipping away at their PB's all season - so it was no great surprise for them to continue in this vane and add 13cm & 9cm respectively to now stand at 4.75m & 4.54m. Delroy & Rivi both chipped in with new LJ PB's too to finish the set.

We were a little short of middle distance athletes for this match, and the weather was far from ideal for distance running - but we still managed to get new PB's in the 800m for Colin, Brodie and Danielle, Again Kelise on debut was the surprise package, finishing just behind Danielle to take third overall and win the B race. Jack Wilkinson finished of a fine series in the 1500m, making it four wins out of four in this years competition, and each one of them by a good margin.
The throwers were not to be outdone - Kelab had a very impressive day with 2 PB's (Discus, Hammer) and a seasons best frustratingly short of his PB in shot. Kim, relatively new to hammer, added nearly 5m to her PB. Delroy improved his Javelin PB.
In the relays we had two wins out of three, u15 boys team posted a new PB - the fastest time by a Trafford u15 boys team for four years.
We went into the match at Wigan with an outside chance of finishing second in the league, sadly it was not to be and we've finished third in the League this season. Team North cumbria will be promoted to Premier 2 and we'll be sorry to loose Wrexham as they will be relegated having finished bottom.
We continue to be indebted to those who help out with the officiating - we can't stress often enough that, without their help and support these events simply would not happen. So a big thank you to Elaine & Dave (track judge & time keeper), Maryon (lead field official) and Julie, Byron, Peter & Brendan for their help in the field duty.
It's also a good opportunity to thank all those who have helped officiate this season, particularly those without kids involved(!) so as well as the above - John, Sue, Rashida, Linda.
