Sunday saw a Greater Manchester Team in the National Sportshall UK Finals for the first time since 2003.
After a 10 year absence the u13 girls produced a credible performance to finish 3rd overall on 1111 points, Birmingham were second on 1112 points and Hampshire won on 1119 - so it was very close!
Trafford was represented by Imojene, Lili and Zalika and all 3 had outstanding performances.
Zalika and Imojene started with the obstacle relay where a storming last leg from Zalika ensured that they won their heat; unfortunately the first heat proved to be faster and they finished out of the medals in that event.
They both moved on to their Standing Triple Jump, and in the first round they both put in their best jumps of the day - 6.80m and new PB for Imojene and Zalika went straight into the lead with a new pb of 7.21m. It was going to take something special from someone to beat Zalika, and so it proved when the eventual winner went out to 7.38m in the second round. So Zalika won Silver and Imogene finished a creditable 11th.
Meanwhile Lili was participating in the Standing Long Jump and jumping very consistently with all four jumps over her previous PB to finish in 7th overall with 2.27m.
In the 4x1 lap relay Imojene and Zalika's team qualified for the final as heat winners in a very close race with Zalika just catching the second place team on the finish line to go through to the final as heat winners where they came third in a a very close race.
Lili had a long wait for her 4x2 Lap relay heat, in which they qualified for the final. A typically gutsy run by Lili helped ensure that the Greater Manchester Team were in the medals as they finished in silver.
So third overall for the team, 3 pb's for the Trafford girls, Silver medals for Zalika in Standing Triple Jump and Lili in 4x2 Lap relay; Bronze medals for Imojene and Zalika in the 4x1 lap relay and a great days competition!
