The first match in this seasons YDL Lower League took us back to Blackburn where YDL all began four years ago.
The Trafford team of 40 athletes had a fairly high number of YDL débutantes (15) as well as one survivor from that first match four years ago - Josh.
Such was Josh's desire to compete, that he came along knowing that he'd have to leave at 1pm to get back to Manchester in time for a basketball match; and Josh's determination and will to succeed was reflected in the rest of the squad as they achieved a well deserved second place finish overall.
A massive well done to all who competed. Also a big thanks to those who helped make the event happen by Officiating, Peter, Scott & Rachel, Chris, Juliette, Mike, Rob and Joe.
u13g - This group of talented girls performed remarkably well. In the field events, Emily was 3rd (A) and Neve - on debut 2nd (B) in the Javelin,
But it was the track dominance that was truly outstanding with top 2 finishes for A & B in every event. Nicola - on debut - 2nd (B) is 1200m with Amelia 1st (A). Maya 1st (B) and Emily 2nd (A) in the 800m; Ellina 2nd (B) and Trezeguet 1st (A) in 150m; Halle 2nd (B) and Trezeguet 1st (a) in 75m. Rounded off with a team of Grace, Halle, Ellina and Trezeguet winning the 4x100m Relay.
u13b - With only a few lads available, the ones we had did an exceptional job of ensuring that we covered as many events as possible. Charlie - on debut- 1st 100m (A), 2nd 200m (A) and 2nd 1500m (B) with Samual H winning the A; Samual B - 2nd 200m (B) and 1st 800m (A) with Oliver 2nd in the B. Louis and Shea teamed up for Shot, Long Jump and High Jump to get 2 top three A string finishes and two wins and a third in the B. Despite a mix up with one of the baton changes, the relay team of Louis, Samuel B, Thremyne and Charlie still managed to finish 3rd in the 4x100 relay.
u15g - Another mixture of débutantes and experience. The best results in the field came from Abi 2nd (A) in the Long Jump and Tasmin 3rd (B) in High Jump and 1st (B) in Long Jump. On the track Evie 2nd (A) and Sammy 1st (B) in the 1500m. Kelechi - on debut - 2nd (B) in 100m while Charlie also on debut finished 2nd (A) in both 100m & 200m
u15b - The only team with no debutants. As well as Josh in his 4th season in YDL, the majority of the u15 lads are all in their 3rd year.
Josh lead the way in the field with wins in both Hammer and Discus before he left. Jarrell chipped in with 2nd (B) in discus. Cynog was 2nd in 1500m (A). Jamall and Cian showed their experience, Jamall won both 100m and 200m with Cian 2nd (B) in the 200m. Cain won the High Jump with a massive leap of 1.70 and they paired up together in the shot with Jamall 2nd (B) and Cian 1st (A)
With so many fine results, and PB's everywhere, picking out highlights isn't easy, the top three finishes are listed above, but everyone competing played their part in order to get such a good team result.
