Match 3 in this years YDL Lower league, a Sunday fixture to avoid clashing with the English Schools Mason Trophy and our first coach trip of the season.
Missing quite a few because of illness, injury, Mason Trophy and general unavailability, it was a chance for others to step up and do their bit for their team.
As has been true for both previous matches, there was a close finish and those competing for Trafford AC did an excellent job of finishing 4th on the day.
u13g - Swings and roundabouts - boosted by the return of Sammy, Maya and Ellina, but with Laura and Orli unavailable. A 'B' race win for Ellina in 75m, Maya 2nd in B 1200m, Emily 3rd in Javelin and Issi 2nd in High Jump
u13b - Jamall continues his excellent season with wins in both 100m and 200m; Jarrell was 1st in 200m B race. Sam was 2nd in 1500m with yet another impressive run, with Alex taking 3rd in the B race.
u15g - probably the team most affected by unavailability with no Molly, Jameelah, Anna or Tasmin; so, an opportunity for others to shine. Marilena continues to progress two additional PBs in 100m and 200m. A fine 2nd in 300m for Holly and a B race 3rd for Lucy in the 800m. Francesca and Steph continue to do well in the throws; Fran 3rd in Hammer and Shot, Steph 3rd in Discus and Pole Vault. Leila smashed her previous Long Jump PB finishing 4th in A and Abi continues her progression with a 3rd place in B LJ and B Shot. The 4x300m team of Catherine, Lucy, Rebecca and Holly put in a fine performance to finish 2nd.
u15b - Losing a few regulars, but boosted by the return of Josh and Tom making his debut. Both the lads did well in their throws - Josh 2nd in Hammer, Discus and Shot, With Tom 2nd in Discus B and 1st in Hammer B. Dean is another who continues to improve with a Pole Vault win and a fine 3rd place in the 100m. Jake was 1st in 200m B race. George jumped well to match his PB and win the B High Jump and a new PB gave him victory in the Long Jump. Cian picked up 2nd in A High Jump. Jake, Dean, Armando and Cian finished 3rd in 4x100m
Again, so many PB's which is great to see.
As ever we are indebted to those who enable the athletes to compete, the officials, Peter (Timekeeper) and the field team of Gavin, Lucy, Mags and Dave. A big thanks to you all.
We are always in need of adults to help officiate, sadly we lost points at this match as we had no Track Judge, which is a shame.
Next Match is at Wigan on Saturday 18th July, hopefully a lot of these unable to make this match will be available and give us the sort of selection headache that we like(!)
