So it was off to a relatively sunny Bebington, the stadium used in the film Chariots of Fire, hoping that the surroundings may inspire or young athletes to greatness.
The day started excellently with fine performances and PB’s for Ramone, Rivi, Will, Emily and Allana and a SB for Tamieka in the sprint hurdles. .
The sprints saw excellent performances from many of our newer athletes with strong performances across 100, 200, 300 & 400m. There were PB’s for Rivaldo and Mica.
There was a great turnout from the middle distance athletes, all running close to PB times, which is excellent at this early stage of the season.
Good performances in the horizontal jumps, with all the jumpers coming close to PB levels of their early season, short take offs, which bodes well for the season.
Performance of the day went to Naomi Ogbeta, competing in her first Triple Jump competition and jumping over the ESAA entry standard. There could be some huge jumps from her this season.
The throws highlighted the great team spirit of the group, with everyone doubling up to compete in a throws event.
We were able to fill 7 Relay teams, winning 5 coming 2nd in the other and winning but being strangely disqualified in the 4x300m.
Overall we came 3rd, which would have been 2nd taking into account the DQ points. This highlights the need for everyone to win as many points as possible, as the matches can be decided on a single point.
All in all a great day, with the next fixture at Longford Park on Sunday 1st June.
Please ensure that you make yourself available for this fixture as soon as possible. If I can finalise the team early, I can let you know the exact time to report to register.
Also, a huge thank you to everyone who helped officiate John, Rashida, Mike, Steve, Julie, Gavin; and to all the parents and coaches who turned up to help and support the team.
